WAP's Priority Areas

The priority areas that WAP will be focussing on during 2011-14 are: 

1. Providing lived experience peer support to women incarcerated in or involved in the criminal justice system in order to provide informed advocacy

2. Systemic advocacy with Government based on the social determinants of health framework

3. Advocating with, and educating the prison system about gender sensitive and equitable access to services

4. Advocating with, and educating service providers to facilitate access to services and support for women leaving prison and outside the prison

5. Developing and training WAP members with lived experience in peer leading, advocacy, governance and strategic planning so that they can contribute to WAP’s work

6. Collecting and analysing data and documenting stories from women with lived experience to develop an ACT evidence base to inform our advocacy

7. Working collaboratively with non government organisations and other stakeholders
