Strong women, great city – a survey for ACT’s women with disabilities

Tell us what you think and go into the draw to win a $250 hamper from The Body Shop!

If you’re a woman with a disability, living, working or studying in the ACT or surrounds, you are invited to participate in the survey Strong women, great city – a survey for ACT’s women with disabilities.

There are more than 31 000 women with disabilities in the ACT, representing a range of lifestyles, experiences and needs. This survey has been created especially for ACT’s women with disabilities so that we can form a picture of the amazing diversity within our community.

The survey is being conducted jointly by Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) and the Women's Centre for Health Matters (WCHM), and will be used to influence local policy and service delivery to meet women's needs better.

By taking 15-20 minutes to complete this survey, you will be helping us to understand and represent the needs of women with disabilities in the ACT.

When you complete the survey you will be able to go into the draw to win a beautiful hamper from The Body Shop, valued at $250. It includes lots of goodies to spoil yourself with or to share with friends!

You can complete the survey by visiting: www.surveymonkey.com/s/strongwomengreatcity. The survey is open until Friday 6th April 2012.

If you have any questions or concerns about the survey you can call Angela Carnovale at the Women's Centre for Health Matters (WCHM) on 6290 2166 or email her on a.carnovale@wchm.org.au

Your completed survey will be confidential but will add to the voice of our community.

Tell us Your Stories About Discrimination

WWDACT would like your feedback on experiences of discrimination you may have had as women with disabilities. Experiences of discrimination that are somehow different to the experiences of men with disabilities and, at the same time, different from the experiences of women without disabilities.  Read more here

Women With Disabilities ACT is holding a FlashMob dance event called "WWDACT Larger-Than-Life 2012"

To All WWDACT Members and Supporters,

As part of the Women's Services Network Summer of Respect campaign (an anti-sexual violence and respectful relationships campaign) WWDACT is producing a FlashMob event to highlight and promote respect for women with disabilities and recognition for the strong, confident and amazing women we are!

What is a FlashMob?
A FlashMob is a seemingly 'spontaneous' event where an issue is highlighted through dance or song in a public arena. In the case of WWDACT, a FlashMob is a dance event to a mash up of Pink’s Raise Your Glass and Aretha Franklin's Respect.

WWDACT invites members and supporters to be involved in this contemporary form of awareness raising. To be involved in the WWDACT FlashMob on Saturday 3rd March 2012, phone Nicole on 6290 2166, or Sue on 6291 6842, or email wwdact@wchm.org.au to give us your contact details.

Although FlashMobs seem to be a spontaneous gathering, a lot of work goes into them. WWDACT needs approximately 100 people to participate. WWDACT would like to produce a FlashMob with as many women with disabilities as possible, that is why we are calling on every member to participate.

All the women in the FlashMob will have a couple of practices beforehand to learn 'the moves'. You will be part of a small group, have fun and get a bit fitter! (WWDACT will provide transport).

WWDACT looks forward to producing the FlashMob and getting all members involved!

If some members and supporters do not wish to participate in the performance component of the FlashMob, that's okay, because we have lots of behind-the-scenes jobs! Although I stress that WWDACT would like the majority of performance participant's to be members and supporters.

Spread the word, invite your friends! The more, the merrier!!
