On 25th March the Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Meegan Fitzharris launched a consultation for the proposed ACT Maternity Access Strategy. The Strategy proposes changes to the way women learn about and choose the right public maternity care for them, and takes a “Territory-wide approach to informing women about birthing choices in a community setting close to their home”.
The changes were informed by consultation with health practitioners, new mums, mums-to-be, and community organisations. The changes help to ensure that pregnant women receive the right care at the right place, close to home.
WCHM will be contributing a submission, as this new Strategy addresses many of the issues that ACT women highlighted in our 2016 report Women and Maternal Care in the ACT Consultation Report.
