WCHM welcomed the announcement by the Federal Opposition to improve contraceptive access and make access to abortions easier, through public-funded abortions in hospitals. Read a related article in the Sydney Morning Herald here, and from SBS here.
WCHM’s 2018 report – Improving Choices and Options: The views of ACT women about their sexual and reproductive health needs – highlighted the cost for ACT women of having an abortion, and that having a job or assets does not mean that cash to pay for an abortion is available at that point in time.
Ms Plibersek also said that a future Labor government would review the Medicare rebate for Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives. WCHM is pleased to see this announcement because WCHM’s report also highlighted that the affordability of contraception and the lack of knowledge by doctors about the wide range of contraception options can impact on ACT women’s choices.
