Healthy Prison Review – women in the AMC

The Office of the ACT Inspector of Correctional Services (OICS) will be conducting a Healthy Prison Review of AMC in  July 2019, and has announced a call for public submissions to inform the review.  The Review will seek feedback on how the AMC aligns with the ‘healthy prison framework’ of:

  1. Safety – Detainees, even the most vulnerable, are held safely.
  2. Respect – Detainees are treated with respect for their human rights and dignity.
  3. Purposeful activity  – Detainees are able, and expected, to engage in activity that is likely to benefit them.
  4. Rehabilitation and preparation for release – Detainees have access to quality criminogenic and other therapeutic programs to assist in their rehabilitation. Detainees are supported to maintain contact with their families and community, and prepared for release.

Submissions close on May 1 and WCHM is contributing a submission and working with the women in the AMC to allow them to contribute a submission.
