November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is also the day that kicks off the 16 Days of Activism campaign that occurs across the world. It ends on December 10th, World Human Rights Day, linking violence against women as a human rights issue.

The 25th of November was chosen as the day to highlight gender based violence by the United Nations in honour of the day the Mirabal sisters, three political activist from the Dominican Republic, were assassinated in 1960 by the then Dictator, Rafael Trujillo (1930 – 1961).

Throughout the 16 Days of Action, WCHM will be posting messages and information regarding gender based violence.
