The CEO and Deputy CEO were invited to attend the launch event for OWLs (Older Women Lost in housing) on 20 October, organised by Penny Leemhuis – an advocate for single women aged 45 and above who are relying on private rental accommodation into retirement. It was attended by support services, academics and politicians.  The launch included expert Dr Andrea Sharam who talked about her research on the “tsunami” of middle-aged women facing housing stress and homelessness, that Australia’s governments “should have seen coming”, and the need for real solutions, like assigning housing for older women — in a scheme similar to Defence Housing — or converting old office blocks into temporary accommodation. The event also launched a new documentary, OWL: The Face of Homelessness., and was covered by ABC news. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-22/tsunami-of-homeless-older-women-could-have-been-foreseen/9074360
