We’re excited to advise that the Women’s Centre for Health Matters has signed up to be a partner with SANE Australia!
SANE Australia is a national mental health charity working to support Australians affected by complex mental illness including schizophrenia, bi-polar, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD and severe depression and anxiety. They are recognised as an international pioneer in the reduction of stigma and a leader in leveraging technology to facilitate online peer support and build collaborative partnerships across the mental health sector.
WCHM knows from our research with ACT women that social isolation in people with mental illness can be common and has a significant impact on their wellbeing, recovery and community participation. Social networks, even when online, can provide emotional support, companionship and opportunities for meaningful social engagement.
That is why WCHM has agreed to partner with SANE and to host SANE’s online forums on our website. WCHM has agreed because this smart use of technology enables people to tap into is peer support using online peer support which is run in a safe, moderated and respectful way. The Forums are anonymous, professionally moderated 24/7, and supported by a comprehensive Duty of Care Framework. They were developed with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health, using user-centred research and design through extensive consultation with people with lived experiences and, or in a carer role. The Forums can also be accessed via all devices and there is also an app that can be downloaded in the App Store and Google Play.
