Cantonese computer skills course 21 July - 18 August 2008

WCHM is offering a basic computer skills course to Cantonese speaking women. The course will be run over 5 sessions:

Monday:21 July, 28 July, 4 August, 11 August and 18 August.

Each session will be held 10.30am - 12.30pm at WCHM, Building 1, Pearce Community Centre, Collett Place, Pearce ACT 2607.

National Homeless Person's Week - Monday, 4 - 10 August

Events around the country will challenge the stigma that surrounds homelessness, and give ordinary Australians an opportunity to take practical steps toward a future free of homelessness.

Northside Community Finance Grant project - A.C.T Government initiative

The project provides an opportunity for women to gain financial knowledge and education pertaining to investments. A womens co- operative will be formed to allow all members the opportunity to have a say in how they wish to invest the co-operatives money after they have researched ways to invest. The co-operative will run for a
12 month period and the group will meet at least once every two weeks to monitor their investments. Any profits made in this period will be equally divided between the members of the co-operative to take home, however the grant amount will be given back. Ideally the project is targeted at women from a disadvantaged background but the main criterion is that participants have experienced unemployment at some stage.
