Women have different hopes and fears concerning pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. These are shaped by individual experiences as well as their social and cultural background, and the care they received. The principle of human dignity is particularly relevant in the maternity context, where women are often vulnerable, both physically and emotionally. The quality maternity care services treat women with dignity, create trust and prevent harm.
Following on from their 2017 Survey, Safe Motherhood for All Inc is keen to understand women’s experience of maternity care in 2020. They are seeking to find out if Australian women have the maternity care they need and want and to gain a fuller picture of Australian women’s experiences during her pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
The Birth Dignity Survey 2020 – Do women in Australia have the birth they want? – is open until 30 September 2020 for all women who have birthed in Australia in the past two years. The survey can be found here.
