Another year has gone by and this is our last newsletter for 2018. The staff and Board of WCHM want to thank you for all your support and involvement in our work during 2018 which has made it another positive year for the Centre. We have made many contributions to women’s health and wellbeing in the ACT during that time, and released a series of new reports, which you can read about in our review of our work on 2018! No wonder WCHM staff are really looking forward to a well-earned break over the Christmas and New Year period. WCHM will be closed from 4.00pm on 21st December and will re-open on Wednesday 2nd January.

Despite the end of the year approaching so fast there has been much on in the last few weeks which WCHM has been involved in and which will inform our work in the next year. We look forward to contributing the voices of ACT women to discussions on justice reinvestment, the Inquiry into Maternity Services in the ACT, the consultation process about introducing a family violence death review scheme for the ACT, and the next steps in worki g with Government to implement more choice for women to access medical abortions through a local GP or telehealth provider for the first time in the ACT.

Of course WCHM could not do our work without the involvement of the women who participate in our social research and get involved in WCHM’s events and forums. So thank you those who contributed over 2018.

And we also owe our thanks to those services who contribute their expertise and skills to inform our work and to assist us to work with vulnerable women, including the Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Canberra Rape Crisis Service, Beryl Women, Natalie Malcolmson from BPD Awareness ACT, the Women’s Health Service, Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT, QEII and PANDSI. And to others who have supported our work through donations or in kind support, including Beyond Bank, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, the Snow Foundation, Hands Across Canberra, and Capital Giving.

We are looking forward to 2019, and the busy year ahead of us. We wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to your involvement again in the New Year.
