Welcome to the June newsletter.

What a month June has been.  Locally the ACT Budget was released with some great news for women in the ACT, the Queen’s Birthday Honours were announced (with record numbers of women being recognised) and our Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris announced July 1 as the day when GPs will be able to provide prescriptions for medical abortion drugs – just before announcing that she was leaving politics due to family reasons.

It was fantastic to see our Australian female athletes excelling during the month, with the Matildas doing well early in the Women’s World Cup, Ashleigh Barty winning her third tennis tournament of the year to become world number, surfer Sally Fitzgibbons becoming world number one, golfer Hannah Green winning at the Women’s PGA Championship in Minnesota, and the Australia’s women’s eight crew wining gold at the Rowing World Cup.

There were two significant anniversaries this month – the 50th Anniversary of “equal pay for equal work” and the 30th Anniversary of Australia joining the global internet.

And WCHM has been busy with the end of financial year almost here as we start to plan for our new work in 2019/20.   Just a reminder to those of you who are our members that June is the time to renew your membership – or if you are not a member you can become one easily.  Membership is free and you only will need to complete and submit a Membership Form. Just go to our website here to find out how.

Have you considered a donation to support WCHM and our work with women in the ACT? You can make a donation by using our online payment form here. All gifts of $2.00 or more are fully tax deductible, online donations are secure and we will issue you immediately with a receipt for the tax deductible donation.

We hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter – and look forward to your continued support during 2019-20.
