LGBTIQ FDV resource development (2016)

LGBTIQ FDV resource development

In September 2015 WCHM released a report entitled Transforming domestic violence support in the ACT: improving accessibility for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) clients. We aimed to address some of the recommendations from this report by producing resources aimed at increasing awareness and understanding in the ACT about family and domestic violence (FDV) within LGBTIQ relationships and helped to build more inclusive pathways for these community members seeking help through formal support services.

The project sought input from same-sex attracted and gender-diverse community members through participation in focus groups to provide their views on what the language and ‘look and feel’ of the resources would need to be to ensure they are appropriate and work well to raise awareness about FDV and;

  • what it looks like in relationships,
  • what they can do, and
  • where they can seek support.

The resources were finalised and launched in late October 2016. If you would like any further information about this project, please contact or phone on 6290 2166.
